The War of Independence is one of the most important acts of war in the history of Spain. Prime Minister Manuel Godoy allowed French troops to enter the peninsula in the fall of 1807 to reach the border with Portugal. But Napoleon's plans went further, the French were taking positions in important cities of Spain with the intention of overthrowing the Crown of Spain.
