In 1934, the U.S. Department of Justice transformed Alcatraz Island into a federal prison, making it the first maximum-security prison in the U.S. Many secrets are held within these walls, which used to house the worst criminals of their time. Alcatraz, soon to be known as "The Rock," housed criminals deemed too dangerous for other mainland prisons, including the infamous Al Capone. The Rock was designed so that no prisoner could ever escape. After multiple escape attempts throughout its history, the penitentiary claimed that no one had ever successfully escaped. But one June morning in 1962, three prisoners managed to outwit the guards and it is believed that their flight ended in success, as they were never heard from again... How did they manage to evade surveillance? What was their escape route? How did they escape from Alcatraz? These remain some of the greatest mysteries and one of the secrets to be discovered 50 years after its closure...
